Every half term, we award a special certificate to one member of each class here at Affinity Gymnastics.
We’re looking to reward gymnasts who have worked hard, brought a good attitude to their gymnastics and made good progress. It’s getting difficult to choose!
At the end of each class this week we’ll announce the winner – parents please do come in to watch the final few moments of the class to help us celebrate.
We have been awarded funding following the London 2012 Olympic Games to run a series of free taster sessions for adult gymnastics and fitness. A popular activity, we structure the class to suit all levels. Coaching correct technique in skills and conditioning enables maximum benefit for strengthening and flexibility and results in learning gymnastic skills as you see here. Once a month, we open up the gym to those aged 8-18 years for an extra class with a difference.
The difference is the gymnasts are in charge! Not us coaches telling you what apparatus to practice, when and what skills – the gymnasts decide that (within reason, parents don’t panic there are boundaries and we are on hand to supervise everything!).
However it is child led and within this safe environment we have a lot of fun. It’s also interesting to see what activities the gymnasts come up with when given the opportunity.
All our welcome, friends, siblings and non members – our next class is on Friday 9th November, 6:40-7:40pm.

All week we’ve been focusing on backward rolls on floor. This is an unusually difficult skill which takes a bit of practise. We’ve been so impressed with the progression every gymnast has made with this skill recently, check out our guide to backward rolls and please leave us a comment:

This week is week 3,our new gymnasts are getting into the swing of things and those returning have (just about) remembered their skills from before the summer break. Each week we’ve been celebrating the achievements of our Olympians, this week it’s the sport of rowing with a team boat themed warm up game.
On the apparatus we are working on cartwheels on the floor, trampette jumping and squat on to the vault and climbing or mounting the beam.
